A Prayer for Believers Struggling with Guilt and Condemnation

Romans 5:17 NLT “For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.

My God and Father, the giver and sustainer of life. I thank you for the access I have to approach you with boldness so I can obtain mercy and find grace to help in times of need. I am overwhelmed with feelings of guilt and condemnation because of sin and I find myself unable to break free from the chains of condemning thoughts.

Lord, as I remind myself of the truth in your Word, may my heart be filled with the assurance that in Christ I am forgiven and free from the chains of sin and guilt. I pray that you grant me the power to fully believe, embrace, and live out the truth of your Word in every aspect of my life.

2 Corinthians 5:21 “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (NKJV).” . This means that since Christ was treated as sin for me, and because I have put my faith in Him, I have now received His righteousness. So, I am free from the burden of trying to earn righteousness through my own actions. I confidently declare that I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, and that is how God sees me at this present moment.

Romans 8:1 “So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus (NLT).” This means that because Jesus paid for my sins and I have accepted his sacrifice by faith, God will never, ever condemn me for my sins or mistakes. I declare that Christ has removed my guilt, and God is not mad at me or angry with me.

Romans 8:38-39 “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord (ESV).” This means that I am forever loved by God, and my failures, sins and mistakes can never change that. I declare that absolutely nothing can separate me from God’s love in Christ Jesus, and this is my eternal security.

I declare that I belong to Christ and am united with Him. My body is the temple of God and I have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and nothing will change that. Because Jesus reigns, I will rule over sin, and I will have victory over the enemy’s tactics. I declare that I will reign in this life and in the life to come.

Father, I thank you for the freedom from guilt, condemnation, and shame through Christ Jesus, Amen!

I hope you will be blessed and encouraged by this song. It was featured in Overcomer, one of my favorite Christ-centered movies.

  1. What beautiful promises from One who is faithful. Father, help me believe & fully embrace your promises. I give you my life & ask that You will do whatever is needed to root out all sin from my life & bring me into the fullness of your redeeming love. May I grow in the fruit of the Spirit & made fruitful for your glory.
