A Parent’s Prayer

This prayer is for biological and non-biological parents. If you are caring for or raising a child or plan to, this prayer is for you.

Our Father, who art in heaven, thank you for the opportunity and privilege to care for ___________ (insert name/s); indeed, children are a blessing and a reward from you.

Lord, teach me to grow my child/children in your instruction. Help me to care about my child/children’s soul more than academic success and other temporary accomplishments. I pray that my life will be a godly example in speech and conduct. Help me to listen, be supportive and show compassion even in the challenging moments. Grant me wisdom to counsel and lead my child/children on the path you have ordained. As a parent, I pray that my decisions will not be motivated by my plans and desires but teach me constantly to seek your will. Lord, help me to be gentle but firm and to discipline without being overcome by anger. Help me forgive my child/children when mistakes are made, just as you have forgiven me. I also ask that you enable and strengthen me to meet my child/children’s financial needs.

Heavenly Father, above all, I pray that ___________ (insert name/s) will recognize your love and grow in the knowledge and grace of Jesus Christ. Help my child/children to understand and demonstrate godly fear. I pray for integrity, self-discipline, and an obedient heart. Lord, please help ___________ (insert name/s) to forsake not my instructions or your Word. As a parent, I desire that my child/children will be marked by favor, success, and excellence in all endeavors. So, Lord, please guard ___________ (insert name/s) from all the plans of the evil one. Surround my child/children with godly friends and influence; give strength to resist the world’s temptations. Lord, I pray that ___________ (insert name/s) will fully accomplish your purpose and that your goodness and mercy will always follow him/her/them.

Father, I dedicate ___________ (insert name/s) to your care and service, and I ask all these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
