Prayer to Overcome Fear and Anxiety

Philippians 4:6-7 – Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus

Oh perfect and caring Father, I come to you today because I am weary, overwhelmed, anxious, fearful, and troubled. I cast all my anxieties on you because I know you care for me. You promise to give strength to your children and to bless us with peace. You also promise to keep us in perfect peace if our minds stay on you. Lord, I trust in you only, and even now, I shift my attention away from my situation, and I fix my eyes and heart on you. Jesus, you are the author and perfecter of my faith; You alone can give rest to my weary soul. As you rebuked the natural wind and calmed the sea, I pray that you will cause every wind and stormy sea in my life that is making me anxious and fearful to cease by your great power. Prince of Peace, I pray that you will quiet every storm in my mind and grant me sweet and sound sleep.

Lord, forgive me for worrying and failing to trust that you can turn my situation around. I choose to remind myself of who you are and what you are capable of. You spoke the universe into existence, You laid the foundation of the world, You gave the clouds their garment, You commanded the morning and dawn to know their place, You command lightning, and You control the storehouses of hail and snow. Great are you Lord and most worthy of praise; your greatness no one can comprehend, and your understanding has no limit.

Lord, thank you that the Spirit you have given me doesn’t produce fear but instead power and love. Thank you that you are making me bold in my soul with strength. You will always be my God and my days are in your hands. Lord, I continue to wait for you because you are my refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. I will have no fear of bad news; my heart is confident, trusting in you. Lord, grant me peace at all times and in every way.

Father, I commit every area of my life to your good pleasure. I ask all these things in the name of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace. Amen
