A Believer’s Prayer of Confession & Repentance

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar, and his word is not in us. 1 John 1:9-10

Dear gracious and merciful Father, I thank you for your love towards me even when I fail you. Thank you for not treating me as my sins deserve. You have proven that you are gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, and abounding in love. Lord, I thank you for your Holy Spirit who is alive in me, and your Word that convicts me of sin. O Lord, you have searched me, and you know me. You know my entire life, and you understand my thoughts from afar. You discern my daily activities, and you are familiar with all my ways. Even before I speak a word, you know it completely.

Holy Father, I confess that I missed the mark and have sinned against you. I confess my sin/s of ________________________________. I humble my heart before you, and I ask that you forgive me of my sins and shortcomings. What a privilege to be loved by you. What a privilege to be able to come boldly to your throne of grace because of the atoning sacrifice of your son Jesus Christ. Father, I rend my heart before you; I regret disobeying your statutes.

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness.  Wash me thoroughly from my guilt, and cleanse me from my sins. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Turn not your face away from me and cast me not away from your presence.

Father, help me to set my mind on things of the Spirit and not what my flesh desires. Help me to walk worthy of your holy calling and produce fruits of righteousness. I make a conscious decision to turn away from sin and produce fruit consistent with a repentant heart. Adonai, I commit every area of my life to your good pleasure, and I ask all these things in the name of Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. Amen.
