A Prayer for Friendships

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 Two are better than one because they have a satisfying reward for their labor. For if either of them falls, one will lift up his friend. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and does not have another to lift him up.

Adonai, I thank you for the gift of friendship and those friends who support, encourage, correct, and pray for me. I am grateful for the friends who have left my life, but they added value and contributed to the person I am today. I also thank you in advance for the divinely appointed friendships I will form in the future. Lord, I pray that you reveal to me any friend who is not truly in my corner or is secretly plotting my downfall. I ask you to give me the wisdom to recognize any friendship that compromises my relationship with you and give me the courage to do what is necessary. Lord, break me free from all toxic friendships and align me with destiny helpers.

Adonai, I believe that as iron sharpens iron, a person sharpens their friend’s character, so I commit my friendships to you. Help us to encourage, build-up, and sharpen each other. I pray that our loyalty will be firm as Jonathan and David, and our bond will be as strong as Ruth and Naomi. Lord, help us to always forgive each other and look out for our friends’ needs as we do for ourselves. I pray against jealousy, envy, strife, selfishness, and bitterness; instead, help us to be clothed with love, compassion, kindness, humility, and patience. Lord, I pray that my friendships will always honor you.

Adonai, my desire is not only to be aligned with friends who will add value to my life, but I also desire to be a true friend and a confidant. Help me to love at all times and support my friends in times of success and adversity; mourn when they mourn, celebrate when they celebrate. Help me be a sincere friend who sticks closer than a brother and play my role as a destiny helper. Give me a more profound love for my friends and help me to be a blessing to them always.

I ask all these things in the name of Jesus Christ, the GREATEST friend. Amen
