Prayer for Spiritual Leaders

Hebrews:13:17 Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.

Lord, I thank you for the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers you have appointed to equip and perfect your people for works of service. Thank you for all the overseers, bishops, elders, deacons, ministers and everyone called to serve as leaders in your church.

Adonai, please help kingdom leaders to do nothing for selfish motives or vanity; but in humility, value other believers above themselves. May they not grow weary of doing good, but be reminded that they will reap in due season if they do not give up. Lord, clothe leaders with a servant’s heart because whoever wants to become great must be a servant in your Kingdom. Even Jesus did not come to be served but to serve. Help our leaders follow the example of Apostle Paul, who adapted himself as much as possible to the interests of others, that many would be open to the message of salvation and be saved. Lord, may our leaders become less important, and you more important. Help our leaders to have a worshiper’s heart like David, be bold like Daniel,  brave as Esther, humble as Moses, upright as Job, and obedient as Abraham.

Father, I pray that leaders will be appointed based on your requirements, and those already serving will uphold your qualifications.  May they not be self-willed, quick-tempered, drunkards, violent or greedy for wealth. I pray that leaders will love what is good, be hospitable, faithful to their wives/husbands, respectable, upright, holy, and disciplined.  I lift up young leaders and pray that they will set an example for other believers in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity. May all our leaders be filled with the knowledge of your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.

Lord, I thank you for the spiritual leaders in my local church, and I pray that you help me honor, obey, and submit to them. Let my conduct make their task of keeping watch over me a joyful one.

Adonai, I ask all these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
