Prayer for the Body of Christ

1 Corinthians 12:12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.

Blessed are you, oh God, King of the universe. I thank you that I am no longer a stranger or foreigner, but instead a fellow citizen with the saints and of the household of God. I thank you that all people who receive your son Jesus Christ and believe in his name have the right to become your children. Lord, help your church put off the old self and be made new in our minds’ attitude because we were created to be like you in true righteousness and holiness.

Adonai, I pray that you fill your people with the Holy Spirit, so we are enabled to speak your word with great boldness. Fill us with the right words when we have an opportunity to share our faith so that we will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel. Help us to always be prepared to answer everyone who asks us to give the reason for the hope we have. Help us to share your hope with gentleness and respect. As your co-laborers, God, I pray that your church will not grow weary of doing good, for in due season, we will reap if we do not give up. Help us to press on toward the goal to win the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Lord, I pray that the gospel will bear fruit and grow all over the world. As you did in the early church, I ask that you add daily to the number of people who are being saved. As your word is preached worldwide, I pray that you work with us and confirm your word by signs. God, I call on you to stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the authority and power of your son Jesus. Lord, I cry out for a great revival among your people.

Gracious Father, I ask that the church be perfectly united in heart and mind. I ask you to tear down the walls of division until we all reach unity in the faith and the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Help your church become mature, where we are exercising our spiritual gifts in unity. Lord, break the spirit of competition and fill us with the spirit of love, humility, peace, grace, and compassion.

Gracious Father, I pray for believers worldwide who are suffering or persecuted because of their faith in Jesus Christ. As the church earnestly prayed for Peter when he was in prison, I earnestly pray to you for those who are suffering for your sake. I know we are called to believe in you and suffer because of this, but I pray that you give us the strength to endure; because after we have suffered for a little while, you promise to perfect, confirm, strengthen, and establish us. Lord, help us take comfort in knowing that blessed are those who are insulted and persecuted because of your name. Even though outwardly we may be wasting away, renew us daily by your power. Lord, help us fix our eyes on the reward that awaits us when you return and not on the temporary suffering we are experiencing.  We believe that our light and momentary troubles are creating for us an everlasting glory whose weight is beyond description. Continue to empower us to share our faith with great boldness.

Now to him who is able to do far beyond anything we can ask or imagine according to his power that is at work in us, to him be glory in the church throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.
